Obituary

Thaine A. Norris of Boulder died Saturday, May 11, 1996 at his home in Boulder.  He was 78.  

He married his childhood sweetheart, Eloise White, on Oct. 2, 1938, in Natoma, Kansas.  They moved to Boulder in 1938 and started a family business, Norris & Sons Drilling Co., in 1949.  Mr. Norris retired in 1983 and since that time had devoted himself to his family and friends. 

Born on October 30, 1917 in a sod house on his family's homestead near Burlington, he was the son of Vernon and Rubie Norris.  The family had traveled there in a covered wagon from Alton, Kansas the previous year. 

Mr. Norris was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Wilson of Boulder. 

Survivors include his wife Eloise of Boulder; five sons, Terry A Norris of Lafayette, Verlin S. Norris of Hobe Sound, Florida, Kenneth D. Norris of Boulder, Darrel G. Norris of Boulder and Daniel L. Norris of Moab, Utah; one brother, Verlin E. Norris of Boulder; two sisters, Velma Chipman of Fort Collins and Nadine Reed of Boulder; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 pm Thursday, May 16, at Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St. in Boulder.  Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday, May 17, at Howe Mortuary in Boulder, with Shelton W. Schuttenburg of First Baptist Church of Boulder officiating.  Services will conclude at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder.
