Pipes and Pressure Vessels
Thick-walled cylindrical pipes and pressure vessels must be designed so that the induced
stresses in the materials are within acceptable limits under the required pressure, thermal, and
axial stress loads. Figure 1 shows a typical thick pipe under pressure loading combined with a
nonlinear thermal gradient load. Concyl can be very useful in determining required pipe
thicknesses, induced stresses, and induced deformations for such problems.
